Brandt.

Schmidt hated Carter, that's a nein-nein from me.

Schroeder is largely responsible for a lot of the current mess with Russia right now.

And nicht genug with the info for the new guy.

Easily Helmut Schmidt, the best German leader at all. He was a smart, decisive and pragmatic leader who implemented needed reforms, represented Germany well aboard and was an outstanding crisis manager.

While Brandt was a good chancellor, I think he's somewhat overrated. Schmidt was definitely superior.

Honecker, seriously? He was a vile and disgusting POS responsible for countless human rights violations, shooting orders at the border and presided over an abusive surveillance state that spied on its own citizens en masse while critics were outright imprisoned or banned from their professions.

He never showed any sense of wrongdoing to end and tried to downplay or deny any of the crimes his regime was responsible for. Shortly before he was forced to resign, he strongly advocated for hardline response to peaceful protests against the ruling class, similar to Prague 1968 or what happened in China in 1989. Only thanks to Gorbachev that didn't happen. If he wasn't already sick and dying, he would have (rightfully) been convicted and sent to prison.
