At least it wasn’t a creationist church that  outed a confused teen to the entire town or a Lost Cause Daughters of the Confederacy deal who called the police on a black or Jewish family picnicking in a town where some of the LEOs are openly racist. I’ve probably jinxed it if only because people don’t see these things are the same and now feel encouraged to do them out of spite.

Local political zealots are some of the most depraved and evil people you will ever come across in this country. These are the types for whom a school board seat is more power than they ever have had and ever will have, and they'll do anything to snatch it up and keep it in their hands, so unfortunately it's no surprise to me that the people of this town were willing to terrorize a family to do so. But we have to acknowledge that in a democracy, wicked leadership is a reflection of a wicked electorate. I despise the vindictive filth that targeted this child, but I also despise the ignoramuses that comprise this electorate. They are to blame. If our population were not so backwards and mean-spirited, then these "bad apples" would never get anywhere in our democracy.
