Quote
Aftab Pureval has won the race for mayor of Cincinnati.

At 39, Pureval will replace longtime mayor John Cranley, who is term-limited from running again this year.

Quote
"We also want to thank the voters of Cincinnati who tonight voted a mandate for a new day in our city," Pureval said. "We spent the last year talking about our bold progressive vision for moving Cincinnati forward. Our comprehensive plans for public safety, affordable housing, the environment and economic recovery with racial equity at the center of the frame, and the voters of Cincinnati resoundingly supported that vision."

Pureval is currently the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts. He’s also a former federal prosecutor and in-house counsel at Procter & Gamble. He also ran for Congress in 2018, launching a high-profile race against Republican Steve Chabot.

I think progressives are pursuing a smart strategy here. They're electing people to local offices first. Most notably, they just elected a DSA member in I think it was North Carolina and a non-binary socialist was just elected to the local judiciary in Pittsburgh. lander also won the Comptroller race in New York City.

In time, these people are going to be the crop of candidates for the US House, Senate and governorships.

I agree.
In time this is actually how you become the establishment. You enter the political class by running in and winning elections. And that starts at local level. The local level provides candidates for state level, and so on.

It's also good for them because actual governing experience is likely to smooth the hard edges/give many of them a reality check on how possible many ideas that they might have. Once you've been in the steering wheel for a while you get better and better at driving the car. And once you know that you have more say over the eventual destinations.

A functional progressive movement that is able to work pragmatically and get change done on local level would be good for the country by widening the range of policies up for discussion on various levels of government, and we get that by having more of worthy progressives in elected office.

The victory in Cincinnati and Cleveland are the third and fourth bright lights for Progressives in an otherwise dour election cycle.

Pretty good fit for the way Cincinnati is trending political, will be fine as Mayor, but is yet another retread the ODP highlights for their bench. They blew their chance when they had it and the state has went right while the party has been forced to migrate left to hold their strongholds. ODP is in disarray

German Green Party used that quite effectively in their earlier years, although granted that was combined mass social movements that were becoming extremely popular at both the Grassroots level which ended up translating into National items not too far after...
