He has a weird understanding of democracy when a 54-38 vote loses.

Nothing warps ones view of what constitutes democracy than serving in the most structurally anti-democratic legislative body in the entire United States.

Why doesn’t propose this reform (and same goes for Collins and Murk in 2017) where cloture requires 60 votes and two senators not part of the majority caucus. To avoid cynical party switching you can  make it based on who someone voted for majority leader .

Really Manchin , Sinema , Collins, Murk and Mitt should all come out in favor of that as that would not only increase bipartisanship but also increase their influence

Joe Manchin’s vision for democracy is one where only his vote matters.

When it comes to Manchin, words are irrelevant. The only thing that matters are the donations from Big Pharma and Americans Against Prosperity.

I’m in the minority but I think if it came down to it at the last hour…

He would carve out the fillibuster for the debt ceilling - buisness intrests would likely implore him to do so

Regardless - I think he’s have more power without the fillibuster. His word would literally mean everything

Because it’s a fundamentally absurd proposal that essentially reverses the status of majority and minority. Poaching members is how a minority exercises influence, reversing is just nonsensical.

The filibuster isn’t about their individual power, it’s about preserving the political privileges of the upper class and that class’s fear and disdain of republican government.

One of the most willfully ignorant people in American politics, sure there's dumb people, but then there's those who know they're ignorant, but they continue to choose to be, or at least pretend to do so, because it serves their own selfish aims (in Joe Manchin's case being able to block anything that he doesn't like without taking a vote).

Exactly. They're perfectly willing to dispense with procedural niceties when it suits them. If Joe Manchin was ever forced to choose between overriding the filibuster or a debt default, the outcome would be obvious. He just doesn't want to do so on behalf of his poor white constituents, or in an effort to preserve democracy. Because he's rich, because his children are parasitic trustfund babies, and because he doesn't really give a s*!+ if Republicans usurp democracy. His class has nothing to fear. Which is the same reasoning that motivates a number of ostensibly liberal congressional representatives and SC justices.

Ironically, wouldn't his vote matter more without the filibuster, as he would be the deciding vote in almost all legislation?

No, Manchin is many things - some which are words I can’t say on Atlas - but stupid is not one of them.  This is about as transparently self-serving as it gets.

We carved out the Filibuster in 2013/ for Judges abd if D's keep the Trifecta and win 52/48 votes the carve out for Filibuster reform and DC Statehood would be enacted anyways

If he believes that why didn't he demand that Republicans apply the filibuster for Supreme Court nominations? If it is so good why not hold Republicans to the same standard?
