Racist but not willing to vote against their ecomomic interests

Blue-collar union workers in Midwestern industrial cities or Tennessee Valley Authority country in Middle Tennessee, northern Alabama, etc., who blamed racial tension on civil rights but still wanted to protect their economic interests and weren't too keen on Vietnam.

Racist ancestral Democrats who just couldn't back a civil rights advocate and thus chose former (in their view, true) Democrat George Wallace, the segregationist. In 1972 George McGovern wasn't an outspoken civil rights supporter like Humphrey, so they reverted back. Though I think most Wallace voters, even in the South, voted for Nixon in 1972, so while Wallace/McGovern voters definitely exist, I do not think there were/are very many of them.
