I thought that members might be interested to know that I've started a new group to celebrate the enlargement of the EU from 25 to 27 when Bulgaria and Romania join (who have just recieved the go ahead to join) on January 1st 2007. The group will try and do it's own bit of European intergration by promoting a discussion between members of the 27 EU nations so that they understand what each country has to offer. The group can be found at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/europetoday2007/ and is open to residents of the existing 25 EU members as well as Romania and Bulgaria.

I think the EU is rushing into this one. I think they should check the two country's progress over the next year and allow them into the EU in January 2008, provided that they curb corruption and other social problems in they're country.

I hope Romania and Bulgaria do not become too expensive before I can make it over there. Sad

I agree. I also think it's a bit too early after the last enlargement in 2004.

The EU needs to fall apart so getting more countries in faster will help that, so keep it up!

For some reason this thread title reminded me of those spam e-mails you get for larger genitalia.

Then why are you against the membership of Turkey - that will destroy the EU much faster.

Well, one good thing to come from the rising prices - we'll be rid of people like you.

Can you really explain what good would come out of the EU falling apart?

I can.
The end of stupid regulations of fruit size for example.

No. The regulations won't disappear - but they would be different in every state. So, you'd have to invent new words all the time, since it would be strictly prohibited - under the threat of incineration - in Spain to call portuguese-produced apples "manzanas" Smiley.

Sounds fine, as the EU has the habit of leveling regulations y teh highest common denominator.
