I would expect San Francisco to be more progressive as they are much more diverse and urbanized than Seattle. What is making Seattle more liberal? Trump lost San Francisco 85-12 and Seattle 88-9 in 2020.

San Francisco has bigger problems with housing affordability and homelessness than any equivalent sized city in the PNW. Persistent inequality + more entrenched D establishment =?more potential to swing R. Honestly I would’ve expected SF to swing R by a lot more given what happened in San Jose and LAX.

Also climate change was probably a more salient issue in the PNW than in CA. I wouldn’t be surprised if the September 2020 wildfires played a role in there not being much (if any) R swing among nonwhite voters here.

SFO has some working class Asians and Hispanics who swung to Trump in 2020, which is why SFO County swung right.

Seattle is almost entirely full of white liberals, and demographically resembles Marin County more than SFO proper.

All of Seattle south of Yesler Way + U-District + Northgate: am I a joke to you?

This might not be apparent given who the Puget Sound area Atlas posters are- but Seattle does have a significant Asian and Black presence. Both the city proper and the surrouding suburbs are noticeably less white (and also slightly wealthier) than their PDX counterparts.

Seattle is still significantly more white than SF. It is still 70%+ white.

SFO like like 33% Asian and minority White.

True, but Seattle definitely is not 70% White. It was 66.3% NHW as of the 2010 Census, so it almost has to be lower than that today.

According to the 2010 United States Census, Seattle had a population of 608,660 with a racial and ethnic composition as follows:[15]

White: 69.5% (Non-Hispanic Whites: 66.3%)

It's 59.5% NH White now

D+73 vs D+79 isn't that big a difference all things considered. This would be like asking why Biden was marginally more popular in West Virginia than in Wyoming.

Exactly

With the unusually high third party vote in 2016, we shoudn't be splitting hairs

It was those highly urbanized and diverse places where Trump made gains though, so it kinda tracks.
