As of September 13 this site has the Senate split right down the middle at 50-50 with the advantage going to the Republicans because of Vice President Dick Cheney.

Is this a realistic possibility or is this not very likely?

I think it is very realistic.

Well, it's certainly a realistic possibility though not a probability; however, it's not so much a prediction since all electoral-vote.com does is report the latest poll on each particular race, so it can change daily, at the very least, given that Senate polls are coming through thick and fast
