-1700. That being said, I’ve never been to New England, much less Connecticut, so wasn’t too bad given the context lol
As someone who lived in Connecticut for the first 19 years of my life... don't visit Connecticut if you want a taste of New England. We're really nothing but an over-sized suburb of NYC. It has contributed very little to culture aside from its proximity to New York and a few rich, retired celebrities living on Fairfield County's Gold Coast.
Now if you move further east the culture gets a tad more New England-y, but for an authentic New England experience I would recommend, well, pretty much any other state in the region. Although I was fortunate to grow up in a fairly secluded, former farming town near an abandoned railroad while almost everyone else lived in generic 'burban McMansions.
Unfortunately, that town just so happens to be Sandy Hook. I was at the high school at the time of the mass murders. I'd be remiss not to visit the memorial park once it's (finally) finished and I have the means to return and see how much it's changed. So it's definitely on my list of places to visit again before I die, albeit for sentimental reasons.
I certainly preferred it to where I'm living now, but people are getting priced out of the state and especially where I grew up.
