Is this observation correct?

Doubtful for a number of reasons, but especially because women are much less likely to leave the church. Christianity has a rather distinctive pull on women that Judaism and Islam lack - odd, because I can think of one reason why men might prefer Christianity to the latter two.

I think the majority of post-Christians in the US actually become "spiritual but not religious." Atheists have a bad reputation in the US outside of the most socially liberal parts of the country (I'm thinking New England and generally the East Coast metroplex, plus the West Coast from Seattle to San Francisco).

The first observation seems accurate for a specific demographic: teenagers and young adults who have access to atheist perspectives. They usually have already had bad experiences with religion in their childhood and adolescence, and it's during this age that they make serious decisions about their beliefs and identity.

I don't know much about New Age adherents (if that's an applicable term), either in my personal life or what I've read.

I would agree the majority who leave become "spiritual but not religious", "none/other", or a variety of "I believe in something (e.g. spirit/life force)", but I do think Western atheism is particularly appealing to men for a reason, namely that men tend to be more abstract and women more relational.
