In 2008, the McCain campaign derided Obama for being a celebrity candidate. What if in 2012 he faced off against a bunch of celebs?

I guess 2012 was a fairly boring election so pollsters were just having fun.

I would have loved Trump as Republican nominee in 2012 so that he get his a** kicked by the man he constantly insulted in public.

Palin wins GOP nomination, Trump runs third party because the Public Policy Polling poll shows he has slight edge. She picks Lou Dobbs as veep to compensate. He picks Herman Cain.

Wait, I'm sorry. Trump 2012 is closer than Romney-Obama?

No.

Could see the argument for IA and OH sticking with Obama but I wouldn't expect MT, SC, GA, AZ, IN, AK, TX or MO. I think IA and OH are both very close, Trump wins both by under a point while Obama wins NC by 1-2%.

I think that you are overestimating Trump's appeal in 2012.

A very unique set of circumstances allowed Trump to narrowly win.

Hillary. Possibly the weakest candidate possible, still won by three million votes. Obama is much more popular. I know plenty of Obama-Trump voters that genuinely liked Obama. Not to mention that Trump's democrat phase was much more recent.
