I'm not going to to make this about myself, but these people do definitely exist.

These people are frequent travellers. These people have very long legs. These people want space to stretch. Pro- more than one item of carry-on luggage. Pro- right to recline on chairs, pro personal space, anti-sitting next to screaming children etc.

However, they’re also opposed to splashing out for business class. They’re cautious about placing what is essentially a luxury on their expense accounts. They’re reluctant about making a fuss to the cabin crew and looking too entitled. They’re opposed to alternative methods of travel, and tend to oppose rail as inconvenient. They lean against greater amounts of spending etc especially as they've heard the food isn't even that good in First Class anyway.

Is there room in our aeroplanes for people like this? Increasingly, the answer seems like it’s "no".

The answer is no. Back when economy class airline seats were as spacious as business class seats, they cost about as much as business class seats do now.

Exit Rows are probably your best bet especially considering kids aren't allowed on those rows although babies are usually placed in those rows .

Other than that you can choose higher quality airlines.

Like lfromnj said, exit rows are your best bet as those have more legroom than any other row. Budget airlines also often sell off the first row or first handful of rows with a bit more extra legroom so that is another option if you don't want or can't seat in the exit row.

Otherwise, you are out of luck.

Indeed. This offers extra legroom and priority boarding. It's available on just about every American airline, available for purchase (price varies, around $20-$100) and it's free for people with status.
