Statement on the Purpose of This Campaign

I'm sure many of you are wondering - why is DKrol coming back? What changed since I lost the Lincoln Governor's race in November, 2019 and announced my retirement? The answer, in short? 2020.

Our nation and the world are facing a profound crisis on all aspects. Our ways of life have been upended. Our places of work have been shuttered. Our loved ones have died. Before the pandemic, I had no plans to ever return to elected office in Atlasia. I was beaten, thoroughly, and felt quite rejected. I was convinced that my time had passed. But as I've seen this pandemic rage on, despite the best efforts of our elected officials, I've become more sad, more mad, and more engaged.

As we see the light at the end of the tunnel with the emergence and deployment of the various vaccines, I have hope. But we are at the precipice and could very easily, and devastatingly, slide backwards into the darkest days of this crisis. And this is why I am running for Lincoln Council: I want to help our region, and our nation, emerge from this dark age and enter a new golden age. I know we have the potential. We just need the guidance to unlock it.

It is a common refrain in politics - Atlasian and otherwise - to say 'Vote for me, I'm an outsider, I'll shake things up'. In this chapter of the history of our nation, we do not need outsiders. We need insiders, people who know how the government functions and how to get the gears of government spinning. We cannot afford to have leaders in 2021 who are learning on the job. We need someone who is ready to hit the ground running on day one because they've done it before.

By my count, I've served at least part of 6 terms in the devolved Lincoln legislative body since 2015. I was a champion of the Philly Plan and helped craft many of the procedures and protocols in place for the Council of Lincoln, serving as the first Chancellor under this system. I know how to get things done because I've done it before, many times. During my time in government, and out of it as an engaged citizen, I have built many friendships - both personal and professional - that will be critical to building out of this crisis and moving towards our brighter tomorrow. These are the tools a successful government will need to rebuild our region and our nation. I plan to introduce legislation providing housing assistance, direct stimulus payments, and job training programs for those effected by this devastating pandemic.

I hope I can earn your support and we can move forward together.

Statement on Lincoln Budget Failure

For an extended period of time, Lincoln did not have a budget. This was not due to political discourse or policy disagreements - this was due to, plain and simple, the incompetence of the current leadership of the region. The current slate of elected officials did not even know that the budget had expired until very recently, and then they chose to act.

This kind of failure is unacceptable on every level to respect and represent our region's great citizens. The people of Lincoln elected our representatives in government to provide goods and services in the pursuit of the common good. Their failure to even be aware of the budget situation led to many of these critical goods and services to fall by the wayside, leaving Lincolnites in need, not even speaking of the many Lincolnites who are employed by the region. Our ability to rebuild out of the COVID-19 pandemic will surely be hampered by the prolonged effects of this cataclysmic failure by our elected government.

If elected to the Council, one of the first bills I introduce will be to dissolve the Council and trigger immediate elections in the event Lincoln goes without a budget for more than one week. This will hold our elected officials accountable for their actions and give the citizens of Lincoln an avenue to express their displeasure with a clearly nonfunctional regional government.

As poll closing approaches, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has voted for me - and those who may yet vote for me. At this point it is not clear if I've won a seat on the Council. But I am very grateful for every vote I've received and the support - from friends, new and old - I've received during this campaign.

While I will obviously wait to see the official results tabulated, and I encourage anyone who has not yet voted to do so if they are able, I do not believe I've gotten enough votes to win a seat on the Council. I truly appreciate every vote that I've received - and all the words of support along the way - and I wish those who are elected all the success in the world. I hope that they will have the wisdom and the courage to lead us out of the crises attacking us from multiple fronts.

I will be writing in my good friends Lumine for President and Blair for Vice President in the upcoming election.

I am very, very sad to see Ted withdraw from the race but completely understand the reasoning. He has my full and unequivocal support. I find YT's campaign undeserving of my vote for several reasons - ranging from policy issues to personnel and personal issues. I am not convinced by the rag-tag clown car revolving door of candidates that have emerged since Ted's departure and do not feel comfortable giving one of them my vote.

I am saddened to be put in this position where I am forced into casting a "scatter" vote due to the shambolic nature of this election and I hope Atlasia can recover from this fiasco and emerge stronger than ever.
