It’s great that the coup has failed and all, but the main putschists are still out there with at least 4/10 of the US population on standby. We are in no way out of the whole with fifth columnists in every town in America spread across the country and in areas where major natural resources are located. A sizeable amount of them are proficient in arms and insurgent techniques, many with conventional warfare experience.

To prevent a fascist dictatorship means dealing with the varied and numerous enemies of the people heavily concentrated among the security apparatus, the civil service, most for-profit chartered businesses, and even among the urban core. Many of these people are our family, friends, colleagues, or bosses. Many are good people in the outside, a sizable amount are “moderates”, but those “moderate” Trumpists will stand back as you get beheaded for not being apart of their tribe.

There was not a "coup" today, there was a semi-organized mob that attempted to take over a building. Police and military decided to let them blow off steam instead of vaporizing them, but this was not the sort of organized military effort to seize control of the government that defines an actual coup.

In light of recent developments and further thinking, I now realize that this statement is incredibly unwarranted and unhelpful. It was made out of misplaced fear and emotion clouding my judgement of reality to provide an effective solution.

Sometimes we say dumb stuff, and wether publicly or not, you got to own up to it or disregard it in an appropriate manner. This is inappropriate and honestly kind of deranged, unhinged, and cringe.

I disagree with this take. The last thing our country needs is to meet mob violence with more mob violence.

However...

If I were to seek to exercise My First Amendment right the peacefully protest anytime in the future, or hell even if I planned on just attending Biden's inauguration as a proud spectator, or if family or close friends planned to do any of these things, I would myself my, or would beg my family are friends, to be armed in self-defense. There's not a single member of my family or friend who I would have to worry about getting out of line in their misuse of arbs to be aggressive rabbit defensive. But the fact is our country has been degraded so much over the last 4 years by the right that now just a simple Act of attending and inauguration puts them in literal danger of their lives or hospitalization by Republican party auxiliary paramilitary thugs.
