Other than being next to Washington, District of Columbia....why is Maryland so Democratic that a Republican has to be center-right like Larry Hogan or Michael Steele to be competitive statewide?

Maryland is basically a perfect state for Dems, demographically. This has been the case through the party's entire history.

Large Black Population, White Population is mostly college educated. Mostly Urban/Suburban with sparse rural population. Basicaly the perfect area for the new democratic coallation.
