Illegal Immigrants Free To Go

Local police said they intercepted 20 illegal Mexican immigrants, but were ordered by immigration officials to let them go free.

Belmont County Sheriff Fred Thompson said his officers were instructed by federal immigration services to let all 20 illegal immigrants go free, and said his department has no choice but to follow the orders from immigration officials.

Thompson said officers stopped a van at 3 a.m. Tuesday which was traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 470 in St. Clairsville.

The officer discovered 20 illegal Mexican immigrants inside the van, including three who were previously deported. The officer immediately contacted immigration officials, who told him to let all 20 immigrants go.

"Once we find out they are illegals, it's like pat them on the back of the head and tell them, 'Go on down the road; you'll probably get stopped again,'" Thompson said.

The immigrants told the officer they were traveling through Ohio to obtain work in Manassas, Va.

Calls to Citizenship and Immigration Services as well as Immigration and Customs Enforcement have not been returned.

For more information, the event occured in Ohio.

As yes, George W. Bush refuses to enforce any laws against illegal aliens, whom he deems 'goodhearted people' who are not subject to the law.

Of course, nothing states why the officer said to release them either.

Some times it takes repetition to get a point across. Carl's certainly playing bull dog on this issue - but heck, somebody should.

Does it matter why they ordered the officers to set them free on US soil?

It could.  We don't know the details.  I don't necessarily say it's the right decision, but again, we're just going off of the limited information available in the article.

That's kind of like looking for a ray of sunshine during a hurricane. There could be a good reason, but the chances are outstanding that the immigration official didn't have the resources to deal with it and had the OK from higher up to not deal with it.

And that might very well be the case.  We don't know.  (And let's not forget . . . the article said the immigrants are coming to my town.)

You wouldn't happen to be greasing the INS to look the other way so you can get some cheap labor? Smiley

Maybe you should give the good Colonel (Sheriff Hill) a buzz and let him know what's coming down the road. There's nothing like shotting the sh*t with a sheriff to make you a little xenophobic, though I don't know Glen or his take on such things.

hehehe . . . no idea.  I don't know him well, but he is a lot better than the Lee Stoffregen which we had to deal with.  I know Lee pleaded not guilty to embezzlement charges in December, but I don't know if they've ever ruled on the case.

Stoffy ended up going the "no contest" route, payed back the cash he ripped off and got pegged with a few misdemeanors.
