„Tender is such a racist, only posts about criminal rapefugees ...“

From Syrian refugee to bestselling author: The story of Omar Khir Alanam reads impressive. Born in 1991 in a suburb of Damascus, he fled the Assad regime in 2012. He first fled to Turkey via Lebanon and finally arrived in Austria in November 2014, after two years on the run.
Alanam learned German in just a few months and completed training as a specialist social worker with a focus on cultural mediation. He is a book author, writes for various magazines and takes part in poetry slam competitions. The 29-year-old lives with his Austrian wife in a small apartment in Graz. The two are now parents of one son.
His first book "Thank you! How Austria became my home" was published in April 2018 and became a bestseller. In his new work he looks humorously into the Austrian soul. Under the title "Sisi, Sex und Semmelknödel", the Syrian holds up a mirror to the Austrians with their customs and traditions. Alanam tells curious stories about nudist bathing, puzzles over strange proverbs and explains why he doesn't like bread dumplings. "Today" met the author for an interview.
