Currently PA state law allows no processing of absentee ballots before 7 am election day. Governor Wolf wants to allow pre-processing of at least three weeks. Republicans agree that changes are necessary to get results more timely compared to the primary. They want to allow pre-processing starting on the Saturday before election day.

This was the situation with the primary
Quote
The day after the June 2 primary, only three Pennsylvania counties had finished counting mail-in and absentee ballots, according to a report on the primary produced by the Pennsylvania Department of State. Three days later, 26 of the state's 61 counties were finished. By June 17, Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties reported completion. It took almost three weeks - until June 22 - for all of Pennsylvania’s counties to report that they had finished counting.

I wonder if there is a word for both sides getting together and saying "you want 3 weeks and we want 3 days... can we meet in the middle at 10 days?"  I know that sounds crazy...  maybe the English language doesn't have a word for that or this concept is something so outlandish that I am the first person to think of it (if so, I am claiming it now!)...

I don't actually believe the Republicans want to compromise though. It's all about appearances.

The chance of Biden losing tens of thousands of votes due to rejected ballots is seriously worrying. Even if the best case scenario happens and rejection rates are super low, it’ll still be slightly higher than in-person ballot rejection, which could make the difference if we have a 2000 Florida situation.
