What she did was wrong, but as Christian Cooper said, I don't think we should be tearing this woman's life apart.

Please stop with your hyperbole ...

Many women with a small dog are naturally scared or creeped out if they meet a stranger alone in a park of a big city.

Men are usually not afraid by women with a small dog.
I was mocking your hyperbole and unfounded speculation.

LMAO.
Smiley
Who would have ever thought that this would be a problem? Only in America folks.

texasgurl,
I came across this article today, about the actual difficulties it is for "bird watching while black."
Very interesting article ...

The realities of being a black birdwatcher.

Twitter NPCs don't even hesitate to use the race card. Does it occur to you that maybe she wasn't doing that because of his race? Your agenda can wait for reality.

What reality? Yours, that of the Hitler Youth? Because to be frank, it's hard to take a literal Nazi seriously on matters of race.

Nazi card is pretty low, especially for an Atlas poster, a demographic which is usually educated.
I mean you have a white nationalist as your sig 🤷‍♂️

You obviously haven't been introduced to the new Atlas reality. Being a literal Nazi on Atlas is far more welcome than daring to call said Nazi a Nazi. And on this board the redoubtable PiT fights continually to ensure that racists don't have to undergo the indignity of...being called racist.

Remember, the PiTlitically Correct term for such people is "white nationalist". Using "the N word" (well, the Nazi one at least) will likely make our resident mod Defender harumph hard enough to drop his pipe and need to readjust his monocle.

I'm honestly not a fan of this sort of thing leading to people being fired/suspended from work unless it happened while they were working or they're in some position where they are required to be the public face of the company (i.e. the CEO).

Like, okay maybe this woman is an entitled Karen, so what? She wasn't being one at work. She was being one on her own time. If she's doing something inappropriate at work, she can be investigated for that. Otherwise, her employer should have no reason to care about this.

This is yet another example of how there is no separation of work and personal life anymore and the result is your boss can can you if they don't like what you're doing on the weekends.

I am a fan of firing racists, and I hope this woman is blackballed from all other places of employment.

Hopefully you never have a boss whose political/cultural views are different from your own.

Would you be okay with someone being fired for attending a Bernie Sanders rally because, "Bernie Sanders stands for socialism, which has killed millions of people throughout history and would destroy our company, and is allied with the pro-choice movement which cheers the murder of human beings, and the gun control movement which seeks to deprive Americans of their constitutional rights. These things things are inconsistent with our values as a company so we have no choice but to fire this employee."

Well at the very least she probably doesn't deserve a 6 figure salary in the UES. And plainly its not just racism here but dangerous actions that could lead to the death of someone !. I strongly defended the idiots at Carrolton Georgia but this is much different and shows a severe lack of judgement that could have directly killed someone. She has no authority in a major company due to her anger issues.

If she has the qualifications to do the work that warrant a six figure salary (or more), then she deserves every bit of it and has the right to retain that. Stop being a class traitor, taking away her home and way of life and everything she has worked for. Nothing about this was going to result in a death. The NYPD are the best the city has to offer.

You really need to take lessons from John Dule and Santander on proper trolling.

All the ugliness of the encounter aside, Christian Cooper is clearly a class act.

WTF is wrong with white people?

The Kevin-- increasingly suggested as the male counterpart to the Karen--in this case apparently has written op-ed pages in the last couple years about how the campaign to change the name of Minnesota's Lake Calhoun, name for slave owner and ethnic cleansing expert John C Calhoun, to a Dakota name is silly because the Dakota people never contributed to anything worthwhile or heroic to Minnesota. Check out the Twitter feed for the link to a 2017 alternative newspaper interview with him.

Yes. A complete strange threatening to feed your dog with a unknown substance, saying:

"Look, if you’re going to do what you want, I’m going to do what I want, but you’re not going to like it."

If he said that to me, I would think that he would be threatening the dog. Also, pretty strange that a birdwatcher just happens to have dog treats with him.

Clearly a class act.

https://nypost.com/2020/05/30/the-firm-that-fired-amy-cooper-promoted-heir-who-beat-his-wife/

Quote
In 2002, Chuck Johnson was a third-generation rich guy, the grandson of Franklin Templeton’s founder and the son of its then-CEO, working his way around a company rife with nepotism — the CEO had seven children, all of whom worked at the firm at one time or another. Chuck was earning a seven-figure income and in the running to take over for his father as CEO when, in a fit of drunken rage, he slammed his wife into a kitchen stove hard enough to break the bones of her face. He was later convicted of felony assault and incarcerated for two months. After his imprisonment, he quickly returned to the family business, starting Tano, a wealth-management firm supported in part by business relationships with Franklin, in 2004. Franklin and Tano continued to grow intimately connected to one another, and in 2013 Johnson joined Franklin Resources’ board of directors, a position he held until February of this year. To say that it was unusual for a company with the better part of $1 trillion in assets under management to name a man who had been convicted of a felony to its board would be a great understatement.

Yes, it's an opinion article from the New York Post, but there's a link to the Wall Street Journal inside.

Needless to say, it makes Franklin Templeton look like real hypocrites now, given they presumably knew about this guy's felony jail sentence for beating his wife when he joined the board of directors.

If I were a black man and I met a white person with a strange dog I would insist that that white person leash the dog. White people have been known to have their dogs trained to attack black people on sight. It's irresponsible, but there are lots of irresponsible people out there.

Large dogs are lethal predators, borderline man-eaters, and all that separates them from being the "Other Big Cat" is the good behavior of the dog.

Woman who called cops on Black man birdwatching in Central Park faces charges.

The White woman who called cops on a Black man who was birdwatching in Central Park will be prosecuted, the Manhattan district attorney said Monday.

Amy Cooper, the woman who was filmed accusing a Black man of threatening her, faces a charge of falsely reporting an incident in the third degree, according to the DA.

"At this time I would like to encourage anyone who has been the target of false reporting to contact our Office. We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable," DA Cyrus Vance said in a statement.

What would a third-degree successful prosecution (or plea) cost her? (time in jail/parole, fine, etc)

This Ohio lawyer doesnt have a clue.

It's a misdemeanor and it's highly rare for anyone to face jail time for those, especially for a first offense.
