You know how we always hear “this is the most important election of our lifetime?”

This time... it actually is.

I’d trade any prior result (other than 1960) to see Joe Biden win in 10 days.

If you genuinely care in your gut about the fate of this country and the society around you - being bombastically optimistic just screams of being out of touch with reality (to me anyway)

(I don't know if I count as a "doomer" or not.)

As I've said before, I think Biden would win a free and fair election easily. I am skeptical that this election will be either, even by America's far-from-perfect standards. I expect Trump's campaign, McConnell, Barr, the GOP, and their Russian friends, to pull every trick and scheme that they think they can get away with without being arrested on the spot or dragged out into the street by an angry mob. I do not think most Democrats are prepared for the depths to which the GOP will sink. Unless Biden gets a decisive landslide (which seems unlikely, even with his good polling) the election is going to turn into months of national crises as the abusive GOP plays the game of "let us win and give us all the stuff, or we'll flip the table and maybe beat you up". All with the supposedly (but not really) "liberal" media presenting a "balanced" view between President-elect Biden and the attempted GOP coup.

(And if Biden loses, there won't be another election even close to free and fair for a generation or longer.)

I don't enjoy being a doomer, but it's simply the reality that politics in America and most of the world generally trends in a negative direction. Even if Biden somehow manages to win this year, I don't think that'll change.

"Joe Biden somehow manages to win"... what? You mean Trump, who is running ten points behind? Even if the polls were as correct/wrong as in 2016, Biden would still handily win. But even that is unlikely, since it assumes pollsters have not improved their methodology.

No.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2020/president/us/trump-vs-biden-top-battleground-states-2020-vs-2016/#!

Biden is ahead by 3.8 points (not 10 points) in battleground states, the exact same as in 2016. It's literally 2016 redux.

I don't care about nationalist populists in Europe, they can become populist if they want. It's none of my concern.

“Everything is 2016” is such a dumb way of approaching things. It’s not 2016 anymore.

And I hope you’re right.  But it’s very possible that it will be similar to 2016.

Doomers want attention, simple as that. It’s fine to be nervous about the election and say that Trump could still win, but saying things like “Trump is guaranteed to win. You heard it here ‘first’ (lol)!!”

I am not a doomer, but I also am not going to be surprised if Trump somehow wins.

The important thing is to remember is that if you want Trump to lose you need to vote,
because being complacent is never a good idea.

Biden seems to be doing almost as well as Obama 2008, and at that time, an Obama victory seemed inevitable, but then 2016 happened, so being cautiously optimistic is not a bad idea.

I doubt that I will be 100% confident of a Biden victory before election day no matter what the polls are predicting.

What's the fun in being so tiresome all the time? Not shooting for the moon and being all overconfident in your side takes out basically all the fun of elections. Do you also enjoy getting kicked in the balls on a daily basis? Cause otherwise I don't see much of a point.

I cannot recommend this enough.

Real talk: The Doomers are an important part of the 2020 elections. Polls are stable and there hasn't been a narrowing because enough people believe that they are off and fear changing their vote or sitting at home. The media likes a close race, and this time all they have to say is "Donald Trump defied polls in 2016." If not for the Doomers, the tradjectory of the 2020 race might be different.

I don’t want attention.

I want discussion.  It’s the non-“doomers” who won’t tolerate anything other than complete over-confidence that Biden will win. All we’re doing is saying he defied polling last time and he could this time too.  Or that he and the GOP could engage in other ways to win (cheating). But anytime we offer a standpoint besides “BIDEN WILL WINN!!1!” you guys denigrate us and call us doomers.

And I’ve never once said that Trump is guaranteed to win.  But could he? Yes. Could Biden? Yes.

I'd argue there are at least a few here who do seem like they're doing it for attention, not counting you in that.
