My friend needs your help. She will be a new voter in WI in 2008

Talking to my friend about politics which she has began to get interested in. Below is what she believes in. She doesnt want to vote for any other party than the big two. She has three questions?

What political party fits me best? Republican or Democrat?
What senator in washington is most like me?
Waht candidate in 2008 is most like to have my beliefs?

I think people should be able to own guns, even machine guns.

I think adults should be able to use drugs and the government has no right to interfere.

I think people should be able to commit suicide legally.

I think prostitution should be legal.

I think no religion of any sort should be imposed on anyone for any reason.

I think any law based solely on religion should be illegal.

I believe scientific research should be the governments #1 priority.

I think that if you commit a brutal crime the same thing should be done to you as punishment.

I think child molesters should have the option to be castrated.

I do not think the government should be able to spend any money it dose not have.

I think there should be 2 term limits on all elected officials.

I think lobbyist should be illegal.

I do not think there should be a government sponsored welfare system.

I think there should be a flat tax.

I think a huge wall should be built on the Mexico border with National guard station every quarter mile.

I think that all non nuclear countries should be able to build nuclear power plants. with the understanding that it will be videotaped and inspected 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and with one balk, all nuclear facilitys in that country will be immediately destroyed.

She doesnt want to vote for any other party than the big two.

Then there is no point in helping her.  She's already lost to the system.  She needs to cast off that predisposition and accept all politicians for whom they are, and judge them on their standings.  Automatically trying to force fit yourself into party A or B merely continues the cycle of contempt. 

As far as her point of views, here are my thoughts:

I think prostitution should be legal.  - Is she looking for a job or something?

I think no religion of any sort should be imposed on anyone for any reason.  - AND ATHEISTIC BELIEFS SHOULD NOT BE IMPOSED UPON ANYONE EITHER!  CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!

I think any law based solely on religion should be illegal.  - Throw out half of the Constitution then.

I believe scientific research should be the governments #1 priority.  - Not #1, but it should be supported by the government on large projects (on the scale of the Manhattan Project).

I think that if you commit a brutal crime the same thing should be done to you as punishment.  - I have no problem with that in theory, however, we're suppose to be a more humane country.

I think child molesters should have the option to be castrated.  - It's been proposed.

I do not think the government should be able to spend any money it [does] not have.  - Vote for George Allen then.

I think there should be 2 term limits on all elected officials.  - Two or Three terms . . . depending on position.  Semi-rational.

She seems to be one of those fascist leaning, self-described-libertarian conservatives. I guess most of those vote Republican, so that would be the best fit.

Well, let's try to analyze it party by party; really the Libertarian party would be the best fit for her by far, but if we have to restrict ourselves to the big two, we'll do that for this analysis. For each issue we'll look at which party would be more likely to support that position (though most of them would not be supported by any politician from either party).

Ok, here's opinion - your friend is a sheep(and not the good preorder plushie kind). Why can't your friend determine these things on her own? Why doesn't she take the time to research the issues and the parties herself? Is she incapable of doing so?

If she really needs people to tell her what party to join and who to vote for, then she shouldn't be voting.

Your friend should realise that several of her positions (most notably that the country can never spend money while in debt - how would that work at this point?) are not really valid.

I was trying to identify which party would be more likely to support each item; I know that no serious candidate from either party actually would. I suppose you could argue that makes my distinctions irrelevant.

How did I say that? I said fascist-leaning. If you love science, guns and harsh punishements, but hates religion and ethics, to me that smells of fascism.

Now, I don't think you're less suspectible to labelling than anyone else.
