The internment camps were 100% disgusting and deplorable but I am just wondering what would you done with Japanese Americans. Lynch mobs would have probably gone even more after Japanese Americans if you did nothing, so what exactly is the best path to pursue here to keep your country stable in a time of war?

Yep. I remember seeing a monument to him with a plaque mentioning that in Denver.

Japan and China didn't become the enemy until 1990 when sports became worldwide and we started buying most of our products Automobiles and Sports memorbilla from China and Japan.  Reagan gave reparations to Japan during the 80's

Blacks were lynched throughout the South during this period. In my opinion, turning a blind eye to gross miscarriages of justice is better than actually orchestrating them yourself. Of course, prosecuting those who carry them out is a better option still

Issue an executive order making racial-based assaults against Asian-Americans a federal crime. Use the national guard to quell any large riots targeting them.

they r americans and i'd tell everybody anybody who believes in the CONSTITUTION is an AMERICAN and so it don't matter where they come from then.

I do not think America in the 1940s would elect an atheist with a black wife to be POTUS anyway tho. very culuturally far from those times.

I am fairly sure it would have been illegal for you to marry a Black wife in Tennessee in the 1940's to be honest.

I don't think Americans would elect someone who is openly atheist even today tbh

What should have been done (as was done with German and Italian Americans): nothing

German- and Italian-American social organizations, even utterly inoffensive-seeming ones like the Sons of Italy, were placed under heavy wartime surveillance, even though practically none of their leaders were actually arrested or interned. I would have supported the same kind and degree of surveillance for Japanese-American organizations, combined with the additional protection from mob assaults that Ferguson97 mentions. No internment, no arrests except on probable cause for specific individuals, no outright bans on the organizations being surveilled.

That was for practical reasons. The number of ethnic Germans and Italians in the US far outnumbered the number of ethnic Japanese. It's the same reason why ethnic Japanese in Hawaii were not subject to the same orders.

I'd do the whole "Bush after 9/11" routine.

Argue that are not at war with a race or a religion, we are at war with an evil militarized government. Point to how Japanese Americans are showing their patriotism by volunteering to fight in their own segregated military units, or as translators or linguists. Point out that it's the same as Italian and German Americans, who are similarly showing their patriotism and disdaining any overtures from Mussolini and Hitler.

That bold public leadership would hopefully mitigate hate crimes and calls for internments.

But as Storr says, there would be arrests based on probable cause, surveillance, and pressure to provide informants.
