It doesn't look like the Democrats are going to insist on universal vote-by-mail for 2020, but that's what it will take for the election to be safely held. What do you guys think?

We should, but it depends on what the COVID-19 situation looks like come the fall.

No. Republican operatives believe that it would hurt them, so they won't allow it.

We should. I always vote by mail, it's so easy.

But if it isn't going to help Trump win then that idea will be sabotaged.

This. I don't see the republicans ever going along with that. Republicans do NOT want more people voting, period.

Can't individual states with Democratic state legistlatures or Governors try to pass vote by mail?

No. And I think it's worse than the usual opposition to removing administrative hurdles to voting: I think the right actually sees the virus as an opportunity to suppress urban votes. Wisconsin was a dry run. Express drive-thru voting for me and closed polling places for thee.

Republicans don't want it to be easier to vote.

They don't want it to be safe to vote.

Hmm, maybe they would do something like that which would be really really bad. Democrats would deffinately bring up the issue and the GOP would get a lot of critiscism for it, so voters who live in large cities like myself may show up in even bigger numbers that before just to try to teach the GOP a lesson. Also, in suburban area which are in general becoming more D-friendly, don't you think this would hurt them because many suburban folks have friends who live in the cities and would also become angry at the GOP? Seems like a risky tactic for the short and long term of the party in my opinion. Plus, mayors of these urban center would probably try to force the government to open up more polling places.

If Pelosi stands on her ground and ties it to future funding legislation just like the 4th stimulus,  then we will have vote by mail. TRUMP is gonna lose in a landslide or a close to anyways

It doesn't look like the Democrats are going to insist on universal vote-by-mail for 2020, but that's what it will take for the election to be safely held. What do you guys think?

The timeframe isn't feasible. States should begin pushing for expanded vote by mail options, but universal vote by mail is not something that happens overnight. It is a very very terrible take to think that it can be. There are massive amounts of equipment, supplies, training and manpower to run a large scale vote by mail election. The majority of states do not have the required materials or experience to pull off such an gigantic undertaking in 7 months.

lolno

The best we can hope for is the convoluted system like what GA is using for the primary, where people are mailed an application that they have to fill out and throw a stamp on to mail, followed by receiving a ballot that they'll need to figure out and throw another 2 stamps on to return. It definitely would not surprise me to see a plethora of GOP states adopt this system in conjunction with the complete elimination of in-person voting in November.

Cost, confusion and complexity: VBM isn't an automatic ally for Democrats.

No because Republicans are fighting it tooth and nail which is hilariously ironic because it helps Republicans in many states

I think every state will at least have it as an option, but not every state will make it required

Probably not. It’d be very hard to implement in 7 months. Besides, I think the worst of the crisis will be behind us by then.

I hope we never have universal mail-in voting.  It takes way too long to count.  We should move toward internet voting using block chain.
