They are full of college educated white voters and have a history of voting for dems on the presidential level. Now, Pete King, one of the most entrenched house incumbents is retiring. Are these good pick up opportunities for dems or did their strength in these districts peak in 2018

Of course. NY-1 contains a large university (Stony Brook) while NY-2 has substantial numbers of minorities. Increased turnout among these groups could be the keys to flipping these two districts.

It's definitely worth a shot.

This - it's not as if there are any other big targets up for grabs in NY. Aside from playing defence, the only Republican districts they could focus on are 21, 23 and 27. 21 and 27 are surely safe R and 23 is a massive (likely R) reach at best.

They're absolutely winnable, especially NY-02.

NY-02 more than NY-01.

Absolutely, as well as NY-24. It's wild to think about but it's possible the Dems net even more seats out of NY this year. The only places they really have to play defense are NY-11 and NY-22 (seeing as NY-18 is only barely red with an entrenched incumbent and NY-19 has a well funded incumbent with pretty much no opposition) and both of those districts have strong incumbents with challengers that either suck (Tenney) or are raising pitifully inadequate amounts of money (Malliotakis.) Meanwhile, NY-02 is an open seat and while NY-01 and NY-24 both have decent to strong incumbents the challengers will be good and decently well funded, especially if Conole and Fleming/Goroff are nominated.

The only reason I can find for Dems not to target NY-01 and NY-02 is because their redistricting plans for the state require a Long Island Republican.

Either than that, its a solid yes for targeting.

Yes, Democrats are targeting NY-01 and NY-02 but they will lose there because a lot of NYPD cops and firefighters live on LI vote R, due to white backlash.

Democrats aren't winning Nassau and Suffolk at the presidential level this year.

Tell that to Senator Chele Farley and Governor Marc Molinaro.

As an open Obama-Trump district, NY-2 is definitely worth targeting even though Trump won it by 9 points. NY-1 is more borderline; there are other districts with a higher priority, but it could definitely flip in a wave.

This year. Even if Democrats lose LI, they still win the state. Republicans need to win 30% of NYC to win elections.

You guys don't understand that there is a big blue collar conservative NYPD contingent on LI that is erupting over these protests, and I can see it in the local elections in November

Dems didn't really invest in NY-01 last cycle and they did surprisingly well against Zeldin. I'd say go for it.
