Let's just say that Hillary Clinton's 2016 loss led to a crowded 2020 Democratic presidential field.

All of the candidates have baggage.

The ideal ticket: Sherrod Brown-Stacey Abrams

Agree with Brown but would have Tammy Duckworth as a VP.  Or Abrams if she won in 2018.

Personal preferance would have Andrew Yang at the top of the ticket.

Jason Kander runs in 2018 to be the Mayor of Kansas City and wins. He then becomes Buttigieg 2.0 with the ability to appeal to a broad coalition of Democratic voters and wins the nomination.

To me, him plus Kamala Harris as his running mate is probably about as ideal as it gets now.

I only recently began to think that this would be a great ticket due to seeing how relatively well Buttigieg has performed in the primaries and wondered what it would have been like if an even better Midwestern Mayor ran instead.

Wouldn't the optics of running for president right after being elected mayor look pretty bad?

But yeah, I think a Brown-Duckworth ticket would have been extremely strong.

Sherrod Brown was always the ideal candidate and I don't know why he didn't get in.

I honestly think he only launched the Mayoral campaign because his PTSD wouldn’t be manageable in a presidential race. If not for his issues with that, he would’ve been a candidate in 2020.

Kander/Warren would be my ideal ticket.

Sherrod Brown/Steve Bullock would be the strongest, but Joe Biden/Amy Klobuchar or Joe Biden/Tammy Duckworth would be also very strong ticket

Tammy Duckworth isnt running but Baldwin might run with Bernie. Duckworth worked for Blagojevich and he was just released from prison, Pritzker, worked for Blagojevich, as well

The ideal ticket for me from an ideological standpoint would be something like Sanders/Warren.

The ideal ticket from a strategic standpoint would be something constitutionally impossible like Barack Obama / Bernie Sanders.

I said it early on and I still think it is the case: Biden/Harris.

This ticket appeals to moderate and swing voters in the right states.  This ticket is also highly appealing to African Americans who want to protect Obama's legacy.  It is essentially the Hillary candidacy + 5 points among moderates + 10% boost in African American turnout.  This (or something similar) would be a very hard ticket for Trump to beat... which is precisely why he doesn't want to run against it.
