Wash Post (paywall)

Sometimes even the local press plays along.

I'd say that the cops and the press were better than that, but they clearly are not.

Can the coronavirus be spread by sharing needles? HIV/AIDS can.  Some meth use is by needle -- subcutaneous or intravenous. IV drug use is an extremely dangerous way in which to administer "recreational" drugs of any kind.

they are suggesting that the meth itself is where it's coming from, not needles.  If they actually cared about dirty needles they'd allow safe injection sites, but they just want to punish drug users.

but yes, needle drugs are very dangerous.  Almost as dangerous as the cops.

Protip: Even though they shouldn't (in a moral sense), in the U.S. unless they are under oath, cops are legally allowed to lie, even during an interrogation.
