Ladies and Gentlemen,

Currently, MasterJedi is the only person running for the Mideast Senate seat. While I fully respect and appreciate his excellent service to the country, I feel that a one-man race would be very uninteresting. Therefore, I have decided to declare my candidacy.

I will proceed to delineate my platform for this race in the coming days. Over the course of the campaign, I hope to win your confidence and your vote. In the meantime, I would be happy to take any questions that anyone (from any region) might have.

Good, a one-way race is too boring Tongue  Well, good luck to both of you, either way the Mideast will have an excellent Senator Grin

Interesting and also good that the race will be competetive, but why is the Supreme Court so anxious to find a new niche?

Are we going to wait and see what happens in this race and Ernest's before a Chief is nominated?

I absolutely wish you luck, but I'm getting a little nervous that we might have a completely novice court. Am I wrong to worry?

Should we just abolish the Supreme Court now? Smiley

Nobody gives us anything to do on the Court, and I think its fair to say that everybody got bored.

The Court never has any cases, except when its going to be a serious problem to hear a case. I expect one soon therefore.

Dean did a great job moderating the governors debate, so I think he'd be good in this debate too.

The following are my positions on legislation that is currently on the Senate agenda:

Term Limits Amendment: Oppose. In Atlasia, we sometimes have Senate races in which only one person is running. In many cases, there are two candidates, but the race is utterly uncompetitive. If incumbents are barred from seeking re-election, this situation would become even worse, and several elections would be quite uninteresting.

National Sin Tax Bill: Support. I feel that the bill does need a few minor modifications and clarifications. In general, however, I am in favor of this legislation.

Federal Capital Punishment Abolition Bill: I feel that the bill is unnecessary, as capital punishment has already been abolished.

Elimination of Selective Service and Conscription Bill: Support. I am oppose to conscription, which I believe is a form of involuntary servitude, in all circumstances.

State and Defense Merger Bill: Undecided. I would like to see further arguments on both sides before I make up my mind.

Election Time Constitutional Amendment: Support. Generally, I believe that requiring the SoFA to stay up until midnight, and then count the votes, is somewhat unreasonable. Moving the election time would be a good idea, because it would allow the SoFA to count the votes at a more convenient hour.

Roll Out The Barrel Bill: Support. The bill's sponsor makes a strong case for standardization of the "barrel" unit of measure.

Diplomatic Initiative for Regional East Caribbean Trade Bill: Undecided.

Department of Housing and Urban Development Reduction Bill: Oppose. I believe that there are far more important cuts that must be made before even considering a reduction in HUD. HUD has become utterly vital to the Atlasian economy and society; thus, any tampering with its finances should be done with the utmost care. There are a variety of other cuts that can and should be made: most importantly, corporate welfare should be reduced drastically, if not eliminated entirely.
