Some proponents of S. 2611 claim that it 'really' includes border security (ROTFLMAO).  The truth of the matter is that it makes some vague promises about border security which the overwhelming majority of supporters of S. 2611 have absolutely NO intention whatsoever of honoring (they just made those statements to gull the stupid).

There were 62 Senators who voted for passage of the amnesty for illegal aliens bill, but when asked to vote on appropriations for a border, S. Amdt 4659 to HR 5441 (RC 200) only four of the Senators voting for the amnesty bill supported funding for a border fence!

In addition when an effort was made to appropriated $85,670,000 to hire 800 additional full time active duty investigators to investigate immigration laws vilations (S. Amdt 466 to HR 5441, RC 201) just eleven of the 62 Senators supporting the amnesty bill voted to spend less than eighty six million dollars!

The truth of the matter is that the statements on border security and employer enforcement in S. 2611 were simply empty promises made in bad faith to gull the stupid.

Right. We need to crack down on businesses that hire illegals. Because as long as there are such jobs, the illegals will continue to come

While both you and Spigot are partially correct in that some big businesses support importing labor to keep costs down and profits up, the point that I was making was that the overwhelming majority of the Senators who voted for the amnesty bill do NOT support border security nor employer sanctions and merely made promises they had no intention of keeping.

When asked to put money into border security and employer enforcement, they run away like 'scalded dogs' (excuse the ratherism).

The truth is that S. 2611 is an amnesty bill.

In 1986 another bill promised border security and employer sanctions along with amnesty.   Well, we got the amnesty but NOT the border security NOR the employer sanctions.

This is a rerun, we do not need!

Now, we have further evidence that, with a few exceptions, the overwhelming majority of Senators favoring amnesty are opposed to actually implementing border security or employer sanctions!

I'm still waiting for Smash (or others) to explain to me how we will have either border security or employer enforcement if we refuse to appropriate funds for either purpose.

Correct. And that's the primary motivation behind the President's policy; keeping the supply of cheap labor flowing in. I agree with Carl here, we need to actually fund border security and employer enforcement.

Thanks for the post.

What really irritates me is that people like Smash kept asserting that S. 2611 provided for border security and employer enforcement, when in fact it only made empty promises which the majority of the Senators voting for had no intention of actually implementing.

So, I guess Smash et al will stop claiming that S. 2611 actually provided for border security and employer enforcement.

As an update, let me note that the Senate voted 94-3 for $1,829,100,000 for construction of a partial border fence/vehicle barrier.

Interesting how when the public turns a blowtorch on the slimebags how many of them 'get religion' when people are watching.

Now it will be interesting to see if Bush vetoes the appropriation.
