It's sad that simply doing your job correctly in congress is so rare as to become admirable, but I'll still give him credit for doing so in the era or Trump, where elected Republicans are loyal to Trump and Trump alone.

Alexander? Murkowski? Collins? Sasse?

Surely there are Republicans who take the rule of law seriously.

And tomorrow Atlas will dunk on Romney, lol. The Trump campaign should hope most Democrats act like the Atlas Left. They are the greatest asset to his re-election that I've ever seen.

Just because people here are happy that a Republican Senator is actually willing to defy the party base and Trump family, doesn't mean that we like Romney at all. Of course we will still dunk on him; this isn't likely to convince anyone to vote for Romney's reelection, but sometimes it's not all about the politics. Sometimes it's about just doing the right thing because it's the right thing. Surely you can grasp that concept.

Doing the right thing from time to time doesn't make him less of a coward.

Suppose Lee might follow suit? His personal loathing of Trump isn't much of a secret, as the Cult's hatred of him bears witness.

Hopefully this encourages some of the other moderate-ish GOP Senators.

I'd expect Murkowski to also do this on her own principles... and probably Collins to try and stay "#moderate Purple heart"

So then you'd need one more vote iirc, probably someone who's in trouble right now, or someone with some principles. Any ideas?

Mitt needs to realize Trump can't touch him. He's just won his seat, will win it again when Trump is long gone and Trump is loathed by many Mormons because he's a gross and immoral loudmouth.

This should be the norm, not the exception. But I applaud Mitt for his stance in an extremely tribal and partisan atmosphere where going against a president of your party is almost viewed as treason by your side. Not that witnsesses will change the outcome of the removel vote though.

Doing the right thing from time to time doesn't make him less of a coward.

What has Romney done that was cowardly lol. His only real egregious flip flop or not standing up to principles was on the issue of Obamacare in 2012 when he to appease the Republican base disowned his own healthcare plan.

Other than that there has been nothing. Voting 85% with Trump while calling him out doesnt make you a coward, as the problem for never Trumpers with Trump is not policy but his behavior. Why should we oppose Trump on Taxes, Deregulation, USCMA, border security etc when we had those positions long before Trump ever became President lol.

If your basing it on Romney trying to be Sec of State, well I see no problem with that as it is good to give the new President a chance and you hope he has the best people around him as possible.

THIS!

But also .... Why is it that Mormons can easily see that trump is "gross and immoral," yet the Evangelical Christians think he is the Second-Coming-Of-Christ ?

Much like Romney, you must have laughed your spine off too.  Yes, to go from NOT to "barely accepting" shows great courage.

I don’t think evangelicals are deluded enough to actually think Trump is the pinnacle of morality in his personal life, but instead see him as some kind of flawed hero who is ‘saving Christianity’ with his policies like appointing conservative judges.

Honestly, no. The Left holds up token Republican Senators who occasionally do the "right thing" and then the moment they break the faith they cast them to the wolves. It's little wonder Republicans trust the Left and rarely break with the President.

And what does The Right do to Republican Senators who occasionally do the "right thing"?
Do they "cast them to the wolves"?
And can Republican Senators "trust" their own voters when they do the right thing and break with a President of their own party?

I hope this also suggests that he is actually open to hearing the witnesses and not just trying to have his cake and eat it too.
