Both are horrible, but the Shah was still a lesser evil than the Mullah regime. Oppression under the current regime is slightly worse and the Shah didn't sponsor that amount of terrorism outside Iran.

Both brutally oppressed protestors, but one adds in theocracy and also wants to kill me. Easy choice.

Shah because secular oppression > theocratic oppression.

The one that wasn't installed by foreign powers and didn't just cater to "Westernized" elites in Tehran at the expense of everyone else.

Both horrible, horrible regimes, of course.

Instead it pandered to violent and fanatical paramilitaries and religious extremists.

Its a fact that the Mullahs held more political prisoners than the Shah. The Shah was a brutal and evil dictator, but the Mullahs are objectively worse.

The Pahlavis were basically old-school fascists cosplaying as a monarchical dynasty. I'm not willing to say that's better than today's Iran, although I'm not sure if it's worse either. Didn't vote.

Both the Shah and the Mullahs are equally terrible; the shah broke the country and the mullahs took its possible ways to become united as a better state in the trash, opting to use the glue of cronyism and religion.

Whatever happened to that guy anyway?

It was very weird, one moment you have a democratic leader, and the next you're being ruled over by a totalitarian...

Seems like them oil fields needed some good old re-privatizing, and the democratic dude just wasn't up for it Cheesy
