Most likely someone who is opposed to government intervention in the economy but has become sick of authoritarianism and excessive focus on social issues within the Republican Party.

In some high-income suburban areas, notably in Obama’s home state of Illinois, such people are anything but rare. In fact, in Illinois Goldwater did better than McCain in 2008 and only 2 percent worse than Romney in 2012.
