So aside from other things in my life, 2006 will be a big year politically as I'm sure it will be for other forum members. Elections always bring heated discussion on the issues and on the races. This upcoming year will probably be one of the biggest midterm election years in quite some time (Probably since 1994). This will certainly divide us in areas but it is my hope going into this new year that we can remain positive here.

Many people here are looking for Santorum to fail in his re-election bid. Whether I agree with your reasons or not is not the point. You can hope that he fails all you want just as I hope for other things politically that would hurt others. All I ask, though, is that we become more aware of how much certain things mean to people. Yeah, Santorum is my hero so I'm going to be very passionate and sensitive with the subject just as some others might feel the same if they have their hero or someone they greatly admire running. Let's try to act more....civil...about these things (Yes, Keystone Phil, that evil political "bulldog" that he is just asked for civility). If we can do that, this year, whether it ends in victory or defeat, will be more enjoyable.

Let's hope for the best from 2006. Have a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. Enjoy the end of 2005.  Smiley

2006 Predictions
NFL:  Panthers v. Colts in Superbowl, Panthers win 28-27.
College Hoops:  Tarheels make it to the Sweet Sixteen.  Dook will go all the way though.
Economy:  Median income growth *continues* to lag behind inflation, Dow Tops 11,500.
Demographics:  Louisiana loses 15,000 people from the Jul. 2005 intercensal estimates.  Louisiana's black population falls to 25%.  North Carolina surpasses New Jersey to become the 10th largest state.
Entertainment:  Munich for best picture.  Kanye West wins album of the year.
Politics:  Democrats LOSE a net three seats in the house (lose two in Louisiana, one in Georgia, one TBD, pick up Taylor's seat in NC).  Democrats GAIN three seats in the Senate.  Casey wins 50.5-49.0.  McCaskill wins 51-49.  Moore wins by less than 0.5%.  Dems. pick-up governorships in Florida, Arkansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, California; they lose Illinois.  Hillary Clinton wins re-election, 62-36.  Affirmative action is outlawed by the SCOTUS, not concerning to snow white neo-libs.  Roe v. Wade stands, but neo-libs. still act loony over said non-possibility.  Bush's approval ratings range from 45-49% for most of the year with an upward trend.  Warner will at least announce an exploratory committee for POTUS.  Nancy Pelosi will step down as minority leader after the elections.
