That must come as a surprise to many of our blue, salt-of-the-earth avatars.

Why on earth is the IRS above the Justice and Education Departments?

I pity the life of the 10% of people who say they have an unfavorable view of NASA.

I suppose it could be considered a legitimate issue that we fund space exploration through the same organization we fund planetary science, earth science, and other non-space related research, but something tells me its opponents would oppose a general Science Agency/Department of Science.

Neither institution are running a popularity contest.

The objectives of those institutions do not include any relation to mildly tepid threads on a political forum.

People with a negative opinion of NASA are probably conspiracy wingnuts who think the Moon Landing was fake but that there are child sex slaves on Mars.

Why on earth is the IRS above the Justice and Education Departments?
If 55% of the population isn't paying taxes, I can see how they could support the IRS but not ICE.

On the other hand, I have a feeling that hardcore conservatives who want to abolish the Department of Education somehow aren't going to support the IRS even if they aren't paying taxes.

It’s only 55% not paying if Amazon (among others) count as people.

This poll doesnt mean 55% want to abolish ICE though lol, I can bet like at least a quarter of people(probably more) who have an unfavorable view of ICE would oppose abolishing it , but would rather just make some reforms to the agency.

Disturbing the FBI and CIA are so popular despite atleast half the conspiracies from the 20th century turning out to be true.
This isn't even to say they are wrong with regards to Trump but no one should be that trustworthy of these 2 organizations.

It shouldn't be, but I imagine the dislike of the Justice Department stems from political reasons and the Education Department is for student loan reasons.

But back to the topic of the thread, I'm actually super pleasantly surprised that ICE has net negative approval simply because it's a law enforcement agency and the public usually has pretty high approval of these.

The fact that IRS is so high disregards this poll.

The fact that IRS is so high disregards this poll.
The IRS only collects taxes and distributes refunds. It doesn't set tax rates (that's done by congress). Audits are pretty rare because the IRS doesn't have the resources, and most people e-file their taxes using software like Turbotax, so they have little interaction with the agency itself.
