I'm leaving the Democratic Party.

However, as I was elected as a democrat, i think it would be dishonest to join another party until after my current senate term is up, so I will change my registration to independent.

The primary reason i'm leaving the party is that it is sinking fast, and, considering i'm a politician, the saying "a smart rat always flees a inking ship" seems very apt Wink

I hope at the end of this term I can either rejoin a reinvigorated democratic party, or join a strong alternative on the moderate left.

Thanks for your time all Smiley

You are a man of great integrity Hughento. I'm glad you chose to become an independent and not change parties.

Personally i think that after this presidential election, there will be a new moderate democratic party and I hope you will join me in working to make it a success... but as for now I understand your decision even if I do not support it.
