This is implying of course, you're a civilized person and shine your dress shoes.

I don't shine my shoes regularly enough. I look like a true schmuck.

I live such a good life that I never have to wear dress shoes, much less worry about shinning them.

This.

Shiny shoes are only for elitist folks. I mostly use sneakers.

The only dress shoes I ever had were from Goodwill. They disintegrated during my middle school clarinet recital. I literally left a trail of shoe sole chunks behind me as I walked off the stage.

If one wears dress shoes, they should be shined.

Even if they are not dress shoes, most types of leather shoes still need shining. (monkstraps, loafers, boots, etc.)

If never wearing dress shoes is one's definition of a "good life", it sounds pretty sad to me.

I shine myself about once a quarter. It's not perfect, but there is value in doing it yourself in your 20s and early 30s. It's not a major time commitment when you can multitask.

By sun, lotion, good swimming, and walking, and then nature's shoe [aka the callus] shines nicely.

I've only needed to wear dress shoes once for a statewide choir contest in Cedar Falls. The bottoms literally disintegrated on the floor as I walked.

Never buy dress shoes from Goodwill.

Never buy from Cole Haan either. Or else we will have learned nothing from Obama's first fashion faux pas.

In my personal opinion not having shined shoes, and wearing dress shoes with frequency looks bad.
