If Gore ran on his 1988 platform in 2000, would the results of the election be different?

Yes. he picks up Tennessee, West Virginia, and probably Arkansas. he may have lost some of the marginal states he won in actual 2000 though so I'm not positive he would have won overall. if Gore had ran that kind of campaign, Dubya likely would have ran a pretty different campaign as well.

Hot take:

✓ Vice President Al Gore (D-TN)/Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT): 309 EVs.; 49.7%
Governor George W. Bush (R-TX)/Former Defense Secretary (R-WY): 229 EVs.; 47.2%

Nader takes away even more vote, denying Gore Wisconsin and Iowa. Though if Florida is still close as ever, there'll be heat on it anyway and no lessons learned.

It all depends on how he campaigns. He had domestic & foreign policy credentials, yeah, but if he ran on his 1988 platform, then he'd need to work to shore up some liberal support, given his platform.
