In each of the last four Presidential elections, Virginia has shifted by 2 or 3 points to the left of where it was relative to the national average in the previous election: R+5 to R+2 to Even to D+3. The factors causing that shift, principally the explosive growth of NOVA and the massive generation gap in metro Richmond and Tidewater have not subsided, and if anything have actually increased.

Going forward, a Republican likely can only win statewide in Virginia in a 10/14 style blowout (each of which was about a 6 point national win). Virginia is Safe D because Trump will not win by 6 points.

Lean D in a 50-50 election, but I do not predict a 50-50 election. Likely. Trump is a disaster.
