Just wanted to check and see if there was any interest among the members of this subforum in a UN Simulation type game? Not sure if it's ever been done here, but the idea is essentially each player would take charge of one country and role play the actions of that country through their Ambassador to the United Nations / UNSC Representative.

I would imagine each round would be accompanied with various news stories / international crisis which the United Nations / players would have to respond to, and perhaps an overall score of the world's current stability. We would most likely start with just the UNSC as I don't expect a huge player base, and the UNGA would be controlled by myself or a co-host.

As for my background, I was a moderator and Admin on a nation sim called Qpawn for a while, as well as SPC: Classic, if anyone recalls either of those. Just an idea. If there is interest I shall perhaps begin to make further preparations on something like this. I think it could be fun!

Alright, awesome. Well if we can get players for the major P5 nations (USA, UK, France, Russia, China) who posess veto power, I'll start to put this together. If anyone is reading this and interested in playing / learning more but doesn't know much about the UN I'd highly suggest taking a Non-Permanent UNSC member.

Does anyone have a preference for the starting date? I'm thinking January 2018 or 2019 to start off as people are most familiar with modern events and potential crisis. I'd be open to other start dates as well though.

I'd say January 2010 because it let's us cover the Arab Spread ng and a lot of problems without having to make up these events

I like January 2018. It has some nice dynamics and priorities for each of the big 5, and a global landscape that was packed with news, conflicts, and priorities across the globe.

If not, how about 2009? I find that date interesting (aftermath of the Great Recession, conclusion of a tense decade on the international stage, close to the Arab Spring...)

Also, if we do UNSC, I call US, Russia, or China, please!

I'm tempted...but would we get to play as the real-life UN Ambassadors, or would we have to make up our own personas?

I would love to be say...Susan Rice, during her tenure as UN Ambassador...or Nikki Haley if we were to do it closer to the modern day (obviously, we would have to retcon her decision to resign for this to work).

If we were to set it a little into the future, and we were still using real people, I wouldn't object to being Jon Huntsman either, as I think he'd make an excellent UN Ambassador.

However, I want an answer to my question before I make any sort of decision.

Personally, I'm still leaning towards 2017 / 2018 / 2019 just because it will give us a clear time period from which events will likely diverge. I think it would be the easiest, particularly since this would be the first round / game. That being said, perhaps we'll come up with two or three dates and let everyone vote before we begin.

I'm a big fan of letting people design their own characters around political / real figures since I think it makes you more invested. In other words, the players would have the ability to (reasonably) have their own timelines for their characters and countries. So if you wanted to role play Susan Rice staying on during a Clinton administration, - I'd be fine with that personally. Same with keeping Nikki Haley on, or even substituting another (well known, reasonable) figure. Same with all other nations.

Fair enough.

I'm not quite sure how much time I can commit yet...but count me in for now, as the United States.

I'd probably be Nikki Haley's replacement (I'll go out on a limb and say Trump appointed Jon Huntsman to replace her).

If I have to bow out, just write it in as either Trump losing reelection, necessitating a new ambassador, or alternatively if Huntsman stays into what would be the next administration, his being replaced by a future President.

So just to check in, with all the games that are going on right now. Do you guys think I should put this together, even with the two or three other games (2004, 2020, the new Age of Revolutions) that're going on right now, as it would likely be more of a mini-game (given my relatively newness at creating these) and require less commitment, or hold off until one of those dies down?

Why don't we wait until 2004 is over?

Seeing as there aren’t that many games ongoing at the moment, and this type of game wouldn’t require a huge time commitment, is there still interest?
