First Minister Scott urged parliament to call a snap election after a wave of resignations.
Following a wave of resignations, on Saturday First Minister Scott urged members to adopt a no-confidence resolution that would dissolve parliament and call new elections, citing concerns from several members that the sudden departure of more than half the MFPs elected two weeks ago would compromise the democratic legitimacy of the chamber. With a majority of sitting members publicly in favor of Frémont Resolution 11-05, snap elections are anticipated for the weekend of 17–20 May, which would make the Eleventh Parliament the second-shortest session of the regional legislature in history.
If all sitting MFPs stand for reelection and no new candidates enter the race, the next parliament will have five seats including that of the first minister, down from eight in the current parliament.
