6:10

Welcome to our 2020 election coverage. It is now 6:10, and polls have closed in the states of Indiana and Kentucky. We can make some early characterizations of the races there.

We can now project Kentucky for President Donald Trump. The Bluegrass state has long been solidly Republican, and Appalachia is one of Trump’s strongholds. Early returns do not indicate that Biden will be competitive here. However, the Kentucky Senate race between incumbent Mitch McConnell and Amy McGrath is too early to call, as is the race in the state’s 6th District, between Rep. Andy Barr and former Rep. Ben Chandler.

Both statewide races in Indiana, home of Vice President Mike Pence, are too early to call. Trump holds a lead here, however we will not call the race yet. Former senator Joe Donnelly is challenging incumbent governor Eric Holcomb, and the race has been somewhat close, though Holcomb, a Republican, is favored. The most interesting race is in the 2nd Congressional District, where Jackie Walorski is recieving a stiff challenge from Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Most pundits consider this race a tossup despite the district’s heavy Republican lean.

6:40

Welcome back to our 2020 election coverage. It is now 6:40, and there have been no new poll closings. However, we have more returns from the races in Indiana and Kentucky.

With the bulk of major poll closings approaching in about an hour and half, there is not much to see at the current juncture. However, there have been some interesting developments. In Kentucky, Mitch McConnell and Andy Barr have increased their leads. In Indiana, on the other hand, Trump and Holcomb's large margins have decreased somewhat, but that may not matter in the long run. A bright spot for Democrats: Buttigieg continues to lead in the South Bend-based 2nd District, and in fact has slightly increased his margin.

Stay with us for the 7:00 closings, and we will be getting results from Vermont, South Carolina, and the key battleground states of Virginia and Georgia.
