That's actually...quite reasonable. In a RL Independent campaign, I wouldn't expect an announcement until there was a clearer idea of who both major parties nominees are.

Besides, it's already rather clear King is only in the race to deny Clinton a second term...so what did Hillary do to him exactly? Deny him a cabinet position?

The reasoning for a candidate running really comes down to the person playing. It does need to have some basis in reality obviously though.
