MASSIVE HP. I don't see how anyone claiming to be a centrist could like this monster so much.

It's pretty sad how National Socialism is considered an FF thing when Arabs do it by some. Soft bigotry of low expectations?

National Socialism (The actual version) is HP. Actual nazism was much worse but it wasn't "socialist" n any aspect.

"No person, not even the most simple one, takes seriously the lie of the six million Jews that were murdered" - Nasser in 1963

I can totally see why an Egyptian might like him - there's a small army of similar "strongmen" who weren't remotely good people but were associated with good times and national pride (Kemal, Sukarno, Nkrumah, Peron etc). But nasser is nothing to emulate.

Well, let everyone remain with their thoughts. just in the last 3 days I read a lot and viewed 4 documentaries about Nasser (Ukrainian or Russian), where Nasser besides the murder of Israelis was covered by a very positive person who raised Egypt from his knees

I also want to add that the killing of the people which made Nasser is a very big crime

Massive HP whom the "anti-imperialist Left" or whatever should be ashamed of supporting, even if many of the Islamists (certainly the jihadists!) are worse.

At least he's not SISI - but that's uh, not exactly a compliment!

No, he most certainly did not.  His Pan-Arabist policies included wars with Israel that cost Egypt in money and lives.  It was Anwar Sadat that launched an Egypt First policy that scaled Abd el-Nassar's Pan-Arabist ambitions back, and which made the Camp David Accords possible.

MASSIVE HP!  That there are worse isn't a defense of him.

An utter failure whose ego prevented Arab unity. Such acts, along with utterly harsh actions against dissidents, ruined secularism in the eyes of the common people now favoring a try of Islamism. His hard stance against imperialism, both by colonial powers and the settler state next door, does not make up for his overall failure of a regime.

Really, all Arab socialist/nationalistic leaders’ failures can be rooted in their power hungry egos.

There have been far worse since, but yes, he was a repressive, self-aggrandizing, Jew-baiting despot who strangled any genuinely leftist Arab political project in its cradle.

HP for nearly everything else

Lean FF on balance, though

Imagine being so privileged that you can call a genocidal racist FF because he did vaguely socialist stuff. That's actually very representative of modern western marxists.

Not sure how he's genocidal, care to elaborate on that?

Nasser was anti-Semitic, so I'll give you that. Forgive me if I'm more inclined to view policies that demonstrably improved the condition of millions of his compatriots as more consequential than some sporadic anti-Semitic remarks, however

I guess many people wouldn't agree with me and it's kind of a hyperbole, but I view his holocause denialism combined with his attempts to purge all the Jews in Israel through conquest as an attempted genocide.

HP.

He misled allied countries into an unwinnable war that resulted in the indefinite occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, and for a time the entire Sinai Peninsula. He intervened in Yemen and needlessly prolonged that conflict. He pushed Syria into a controversial and unworkable political union that eventually fell apart, led to a backlash, and resulted in the rise of the Assad regime there.

His government was mismanaged and corrupt, and the consequences of that continue to be felt in Egypt today.

Even aside from the anti semitism, he ended up victim of the fatal flaw that 99% of strongmen leaders end up having: completely buying their own hype and believing they are the only true representative of the people, that nobody else could possibly understand the populations' wishes and only they are qualified to make decisions on their behalf. If he hadn't died in office, you'd have probably seen him go the way of Sukarno or even Gaddafi.
