There's also this bizarre notion that the swing voter is usually in between the two parties, rather than having a bizarre and idiosyncratic mess of rather extreme views. The best example of a swing voter I know is the guy who owns the dry cleaner I go to who regularly (and I mean regularly) says that "the atom bomb" is the "solution" to North Korea. I know he's swung back and forth on who he votes for and he's basically what I imagine when I think swing voter: people who believe wacky nonsense that's so over the place that it doesn't really line up well with either party.

I'm wondering how insulting and lampooning swing voters is a sound strategy to get them to vote Democratic in 2020.

As nutty as the GOP base can be, they don't shame swing voters for voting for the other side the way the Democratic base seems to do.  At least on Atlas.  Perhaps there's a Public Relations lesson in all of that.

I don't think they're dumb, just that they hold politics in contempt.

Who said anyone on atlas is a professional democratic strategist? Besides, the GOP (both politicians and the base) love to act like those who live in urban areas are sub-humans who don't deserve to have their voices heard.

The vast majority of people in all countries, including the United States, actually agree with my ideology (no immigration, lots of welfare) but few politicians are willing to run on this winning platform because of monied influence.

Is there really a page-and-a-half of posts, Yes, mine included, trying to parse the views of a single voter who went from Trump in 2016 to supporting a Democratic Congressional candidate this year?

You happily vote for someone who was caught on tape admitting to sexual assault, but then are compelled to vote Democratic afterwards on policy grounds? Did Trump's rhetoric on immigration and guns sound moderate in 2016? lmaoooo

Man that just doesn't make sense unless his positions on immigration, abortion, and guns has changed over the last two years.

but no worry...Trump can win em back and others who have never voted and others who have voted D all their lives. Get ready for the most amazing landslide in this country's history in 2020!
