Poll Question:  Could hurricane devastation of the GOP-heavy Florida panhandle, help state-wide Dem candidates in the Nov election?

The panhandle is GOP citizen/voter heavy compared to the rest of the state.
Could the recent hurricane devastation of their homes and community, suppress them from voting in the next 3 weeks, as they are physically and emotionally consumed with getting their lives back in order.

My thought is that if the Florida Senate and governor race are close, that it could tip the balance to the Dem candidate come Nov 6.

I suggest changing the poll to "how many threads will be created asking essentially the same question?" Smiley This is at least the 4th or 5th so far between this board, the Congressional one, and the Gubernatorial/statewide race.

Depends on how much the panhandle has recovered by election day, and exactly who gets harmed the most from this.

Keep in mind that a lot of black voters live in some of the counties that got hit the hardest (like Gasden, the only majority-black county in the state).

Michael would have had to hit farther west for it to have helped the Democrats based on who would be too impacted to make voting a priority.  Now it comes down to how the hurricane response itself affects people's votes.

Those counties are a small fraction of the people who live in the central PH. If I had to guess, I would say that of everyone that had received more than a 1000 dollars of damage, or experienced at least gusts above 74 mph, were probably 7:5 to 5:3 Trump voters.

No. If anything it’ll help Scott.

How about we show some compassion and common decency by not asking whether a natural disaster will help our preferred political party? At least for a while? I guarantee the people affected by it are not wondering about their vote in November right now.

I'd like to echo this statement. While I understand that this is a political forum, and that many people here's first instincts are to wonder whether this will help Scott or Gillum or whoever, this, if there is no other time to do so, is a time to put politics aside.

My friend lives in Panama City. Over the course of a day and a half, she went from being more concerned about Doctor Who spoilers than about the Category 1 hurricane on the horizon to having her hometown ripped apart in an afternoon. The people there aren't caring about whether "hurricane devastation of the FL panhandle will help statewide Dem candidates."

Don't even think about it. Human lives are more important than political advantage.

I agree with this in principal, but it is going to have an effect. Whether it’s appropriate to discuss it as this point is debatable of course.

Obviously, there is going to be some long term displacement of many residents in Bay, Gulf, Calhoun, Liberty, Franklin and parts of Gasden.  It's not just about getting power on in some of these places.
