It might be good having the alligator be jointly acknowledged as regional animal in conjunction with the South, along with the golden retriever.
The alligator is already the state reptile in three states.

The broad head, with its friendly and intelligent eyes, short ears, and straight muzzle, is a breed hallmark. In motion, Goldens move with a smooth, powerful gait, and the feathery tail is carried, as breed fanciers say, with a “merry action.”

I would be very supportive of a bill that named the gator as the regional reptile. As long as we don't open the alligator vs. crocodile debate.
