In 2000, Indiana Senator wins the Republican nomination and picks his fellow senator John McCain as his running mate. Al Gore is the Democratic nominee and selects New Hampshire governor Jeanne Shaheen for the VP spot. Who wins? Discuss with maps.

Lugar's centrism costs him enough conservative voters in the South for Gore to win Tennessee and keep Arkansas and West Virginia close, and Gore adds New Hampshire to his column with Shaheen as his running mate, but Lugar offsets this by taking Iowa, Wisconsin, New Mexico and Oregon. Lugar also wins the popular vote.
