That story didn't make the news anywhere, even in the few papers that headlined the monkey comments. "DeSantis racism" is definitely looking like the early Democratic party line on the race, but its unclear whether it'll actually be picked up as a major issue by the news at large. Especially when pointing to what other people posted on a Facebook group, of all things, as proof.

Is the fact that there are racists among a 95,000 member Facebook group supposed to prove that every member is a racist? Its not like DeSantis is moderating some white nationalist organization. I'd guess almost nobody outside activist circles ever even hear about this and even fewer ever care.

Graham will be the nominee and she has been leading DeSantis. She will use the Tray on Martin to her advance and win the race😀

What is wrong with you? The primary was 2 days ago. Graham will not be the nominee.

No, because the comments when taken in context are hard to take in an explicit way. They’re definitely a (probably unintentional imo) dog whistle to the base and they’ll help gin up Democratic base support for Gillum, but I doubt the same swing voters that voted for Trump in Florida after access Hollywood will care much about these comments two months from now.

No, because the comments when taken in context are hard to take in an explicit way. They’re definitely a (probably unintentional imo) dog whistle to the base and they’ll help gin up Democratic base support for Gillum Webb, but I doubt the same swing voters that voted for Trump Bush Jr in Florida Virginia after access Hollywood "You forgot Poland" will care much about these comments two months from now.

I changed a few things, but this was the general thoughts for Virginia in '06...which voted more for Bush than Florida did for Trump. I think we know who won that one.

Also, DeSantis is no Trump.

Democrats must really want to see DeSantis win.

They are creating a "racist" comment out of nothing.  One would have to go back to Theodore Bilbo to prove this.

They are also helping to shape the image of Gillum being a whiner and a snowflake.  Gillum, to his credit, has left this issue alone, but his "help" can't stop running their mouths, claiming DeSantis is a "racist", helping define the campaign in terms that will not help Gillum.

Gillum has only one path to victory; to focus like a laser on the economic issues and REAL civil rights issues that affect working class Floridians and below, of both races, culminating with the mother of all turnout efforts.  He has a message; it's controversial, but it touches real bread-and-butter needs and crap like this works only to abscure it and trivialize his campaign.  But keep it up, keep making threads like this, so you can be right while helping your candidate lose.

Strongly disagree that the comment isn't a racist dog whistle, agree that Gillum shouldn't complain that DeSantis is racist. Voters don't like when a candidate whines about being a victim, it makes them look weak. Deal with your personal problems on your own time, we want to hear about how you'll deal with our problems. I don't care about your hurt feelings no matter how justified they are. And like you said, it derails the whole framing of the campaign in a way that would hurt Gillum.

I don't think it hurts him if some people whine about DeSantis on Atlas or twitter though. And the whole hullabaloo has helped his fundraising.
