It's funny that the one thing Trump is supposed to be best at (business/money), he is worse at than a community college Freshman who just got a C+ in Macroeconomics.

As a university freshman who just got 80 in Macroeconomics (is it B+ in American? Idk how to translate it), I agree with you Tongue

How is it that Trump has the unilateral power to do this apparently?

80 would be a B-, just above the cutoff for a C+ (a 79 woulda gotten you the C+ instead Wink + Tongue)

This is what I'm wondering. Is Congress really so feckless that it will back him on this? I know that subsidies to farmers to keep them under the Republican's thumbs is a thing, even when it's so blatant and will add directly to the deficit? I don't understand this.

That depends on the school. A 70 is an A in some places. (that's not grade inflation, that's because grades should go up from 0 rather than down from 100)

Farmers are upset about losing their markets for good, and throwing some cash at them won’t make them feel better.
Wrong, the stimulus during the Obama years helped solidify his inner suburban coalition in 2012. Direct money always talks.

That would be an awesome analogy if Obama had sent money to "his inner suburban coalition" because he had personally tanked the economy in 2008 before he took office the way Trump has caused this rural depression with his tariffs.

NPR said something about a New Deal program - probably via the FDA.

From a certain point of view, using someone else's billions to buy the loyalty of people by compensating them for damage you have personally caused, while inflicting multiple injuries to a rival of the nation that you seem unaccountably beholden to IS genius.

What a Republican hypocrisy, especially because their god emperor created this crisis through foolishness. They always told us that government interference was very bad except for a woman's body.

Then it is time to repeal that, along the the idea that POTUS can slap on these tariffs in general unilaterally. I wonder if there is a court case to be had that there is no rational basis for POTUS to find that the EU and Canada pose a security risk to the US, which is obviously ludicrous on its face.

Farmers around here are saying that this is the worst milk market that they've ever seen. I don't know if that's true, but things are definitely very bad.

It's definitely got to be the worst in my memorable lifetime at minimum. I got a gallon of 2% at Walmart last week for $0.99. I remember during the spikes of 2006-07 when milk was $4.50/gallon...even generic milk at convenience stores (which is always insanely overpriced) is now falling below $2.50.

Does America import foreign milk? Perhaps, some Chinese (or whatever) milk has been flooding the markets and causing these poor farmers to suffer.

Trump is the perfect example of how perception shapes reality. He has always been an incompetent businessman, but he played a successful businessman on TV and that is what many Americans saw, so here we are.

Chinese milk sounds horrifying.

That's really not true. I mean, it depends on the university- here, in the University of Haifa, you can get a 90 in macro without breaking a sweat. But in the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, the average score stands at just above 70 (the passing score), and not because we're all dumb- it's just a legitimately tough and intentionally confusing exam meant to make sure we have a deep understanding of macro.

When I was at TAU, we all knew that it was a party school and that anyone who wanted to actually learn something in Israel went to Hebrew University or Technion.  Tears of joy

If that interfering government is controlled by them though, then it's perfectly acceptable.

As previously pointed out, this 12 billion dollars will mean the difference between surviving and not making it for a lot of farms, not to mention some very important quarterly profit statements for big AG. In short, everyone knows that Trump and his administration have absolutely zero Scruples about blatantly handing out those funds to friends and cutting them off completely for anyone who dares speak out. In short, it's taxpayer-funded extortion for campaign contributions.
