Now that Kyrsten Sinema is projected to win Jeff Flake's seat, is Doug Ducey going to appoint Martha McSally to John McCain's/Jon Kyl's seat?

Yes, that's what is expected, but Dems have other targets in 2020, aside from AZ

Imo, appointed someone who just lost a race for the senate to a senate seat is a bad idea. Bad optics, looks undemocratic. Ducey might do though, he will appoint someone who will run in the special election if Kyl does indeed step down.

If he appoints mcsally she gets primaried.
If he apoints a place holder and runs in 2020 then governor goes to the democrats.
He has so little choices. If I had to say andy higgs would  be the best imo. Swiekert has ethics issues. Lesko is a weak candidate and Gosar is just an asshole.

If McSally is appoint, there will be blood in the water (since most will considered her a weak candidate).

We can expect her to face another nasty primary then, if she survives, a very strong Democratic opponent.

Attorney General Mark Brnovich could be appointed to the seat.

Yeah, it seems like a bad idea for this reason (from Ducey's perspective). He's opening the seat up to a primary challenge from someone Ducey isn't a fan of, and regardless of the primary outcome, the Democrats end up with an advantage.

More likely Ducey appoints some low-key person close to him. Maybe his Chief of Staff or something?

I certainly hope so, because in two years we’d get Senator Ruben Gallego

Yes.

This is why McSally has been more responsible in her rhetoric concerning the vote then Scott.

Kyl doesn't stay on to the special election in 2020? Why did he accept the appointment in the first place then?

Cindy McCain should have been appointed. Appointing McSally now would be a middle finger to the voters who just rejected her, despite a narrow margin.

I don't think she will but I rate it with 95 Degree of confidence that her Daughter Meghan McCain will be appointed to that Seat once Kyl leaves.

So we will have another McCain in the Senate.

Well, I think the the concern among Republicans is that Cindy McCain's ideology is not known.

Furthermore, if Cindy McCain is anything like John McCain, she might value decency over ideology and voted against Kavanaugh.
