It seems like Andrew Jackson is making a comeback because of Donald Trump.  When we look back at other presidents, they too had presidents that kind of returned to the White House through the new president.

For Barack Obama, I remember a lot of Abraham Lincoln being in the symbolism of him.  He also used Lincoln a lot as inspiration.  Then there was the Team of Rivals and the renewed interest in Lincoln during Obama's presidency.  There was also a revival of interest in LBJ.

George W. Bush's presidency brought a lot of reflection of Ronald Reagan, who became mythological.  Reagan's funeral also might have brought back fond memories for the Republicans in 2004.

Bill Clinton met JFK as a boy and there are similarities.  Jackie died during Clinton's presidency and so did JFK Jr.  The Clintons were Baby Boomers who looked to the Kennedys as the legend family of the Democratic Party.

For Reagan, Calvin Coolidge and even Herbert Hoover were definitely restored in the national psyche as conservative figures.

I could see that if Joe Biden wins in 2020, that actually the elder Bush becomes a symbolic figure, or maybe even Warren Harding with the return to normalcy.

It's an interesting idea that a former President takes on a new life thanks to a current President.

Trump - Hard to say

For Obama I would say JFK- Young, Inexperienced and Charismatic Senator runs on a message of Hope and Change defeats more experienced candidates and gets elected with huge congressional majorities. Despite Huge Congressional Majorities JFK isnt able to get much of his legislative agenda passed the Republicans and Conservative Dems(For Obama this was blue dogs).

W Bush - Reagan: Again while Bush is no where near as good as Reagan this one is obvious

Clinton - Grover Cleveland: Cleveland was basically a DLC'r of the day and governed more like a Republican than a Democrat

HW Bush - Truman : Both VP's of Popular Transformative Presidents and both brought to an end of an old conflict while were their in the early stages of a new one starting. Both also were totally overshadowed by their Predecessor
